All About Us

I saw this on a friend's Facebook page. I'm a "gig widow" tonight (which means Michael is working), and I'm trying to fill the time.

♥ How long have you been together?
Officially? With commitment? A little more than two years. Before that, Michael had some real issues deciding what he wanted in life, and who he wanted to spend it with. It was a difficult situation for both of us, and I'm so glad it's behind us now.

♥ How long did you know each other before you started dating?
We have known each other since 1992 or 1993. So, about sixteen years, or so.

♥ Who asked who out?
Michael began to pursue me, but I don't remember him asking me out per se. We had known each other for a couple of years and all of a sudden there was just this chemistry between us. I don't know why I didn't notice him before that because I saw him almost every weekend at church. He started calling me for no good reason and we'd have these really short, meaningless conversations. After he'd hung up, I'd ask myself What just happened there? It was pretty funny.

♥ How old are each of you?
I am 41, and Michael is 53.

♥ Whose siblings do/did you see the most?
I think we see my family more than we do his.

♥ Do you have any children together?
Not yet...

♥ What about pets?
We have a yellow Labrador Retriever named Buffy.

♥ Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
I think infertility is currently our hardest situation. But in spite of that, we feel really lucky - really blessed. We were just talking about how happy we are the other day, and it's not because we have everything we want in life, in fact we've got our share of trouble. But, we just "work" together. It's really wonderful.

♥ Did you go to the same school?
No.

♥ Are you from the same home town?
Not exactly, but we both grew up just a few miles from each other.

♥ Who is the smartest?
We both have our strengths. I have more formal education, but he's got a lot of knowledge about music, and he's very savvy about technology. I think we're both teaching each other something new every day.

♥ Who is the most sensitive?
I am. I think that's pretty typical.

♥ Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Our most favorite restaurants are Kabuki, Vino y Cucina, Sushi Kinoya, Udupi Palace, and Ten Ten. If we're going out, it's likely going to be one of those places.

♥ Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
We've been to Madrid and London together.

♥ Who has the craziest exes?

♥ Who has the worst temper?
It takes a lot to get Michael angry. So, I guess I take this category.

♥ Who does the cooking?
Michael does. He gets up early with me every day and fixes me a hot breakfast with freshly squeezed OJ. Michael also fixes dinner more often that I do. Our small kitchen seems to get on his nerves less than it does mine. I avoid it.

♥ Who is more social?
He is. Michael is definitely an extrovert, whereas I'm an introvert.

♥ Who is the neat-freak?
I like things clutter-free. He's a "collector". Take from that what you will. I will give him credit for doing a lot of the actual cleaning though. Today he congenially referred to himself as the "house boy".

♥ Who is more stubborn?
It just depends on the situation. He's very stubborn about getting rid of his junk, and he's very resistant to change. I don't know what he'd say about me.

♥ Who hogs the bed?
He does. If I get out of bed to go to the bathroom, when I come back to bed he's rolled over onto my side of the bed. Everytime!

♥ Who wakes up earlier?
I do, but only because I have to.

♥ Where was your first date?
I remember meeting him for coffee at Deidrich's. I was too nervous to even drink my coffee! That was the first time he kissed me, too.

♥ Who has the bigger family?
Michael does. He has five brothers, two sisters, and a half-brother and two half-sisters.

♥ Do you get flowers often?
No, but I keep telling him how inexpensive and pretty the bouquets at Trader Joe's are. When I want some fresh flowers, I usually buy them for myself.

♥ How do you spend the holidays?
We try and spend some time with both of our families on holidays. But if and when we have children, we'll have to split things up a bit. I can't imagine hauling little kids all over Los Angeles and Orange counties just to see everybody in one day. Sounds like a recipe for temper tantrums - mine!

♥ Who is more jealous?
Neither of us are all that jealous, but I suppose I am more so than he.

♥ What is "your song"?
We don't really have one, but our first dance at our wedding was to Anita Baker's Giving You the Best that I've Got. It expressed my feelings about our relationship perfectly.

♥ How long did it take to get serious?
For me, not long after that first kiss. For him a decade and a half!

♥ Who eats more?
He does, but he's the one losing weight. What's up with that?

♥ Who does the laundry?
I used to, but he's taken over lately. Since he hasn't been on the schedule at Disneyland, he has been home a lot more. He's happily taken on most of the domestic chores for me, and I truly appreciate it.

♥ Who’s better with the computer?
He is! Michael really should be working for Apple. He is passionate about their products.

♥ Who drives when you are together?
I like to let him drive, but I am guilty of a tiny little bit of backseat driving. It's just that he's always in the wrong lane when he needs to make a right turn. That drives me crazy! If I don't say anything, he misses the turn. If I say something, he tells me I'm backseat driving. I can't win.

You two are so beautiful together! And I love your honesty-- it sounds so much like you provide each other balance and from your other posts here, it sounds like you have a great mixture of love, humor and seriousness. I am glad your hysteroscopy had good results I am so sorry for the discomfort. Threading anything through my cervix officially hurts badly with the exception of my last IUI which simply had one pinchy ouch-- so I am sorry you had to go through it. BUt I am very happy your septum did not reform. Good luck to Michael with his new treatment-- I am sure neither of you will miss the coughing! take good care,
Kate

"Michael had some real issues deciding what he wanted in life"

Sadly I can relate. Although his name isn't Michael ;0) And I try not to take it personally....!
