Two Steps Forward

Two steps back...

Yesterday it seemed that we had done all we needed to do to get Michael in with UCLA Medical Group. My dad had contacted the chairman of the urology department at UCLA, and he'd given us the name of a general practitioner in his medical group who would take us. So, phone calls were made and the ball seemed to be in motion. We were elated.

Then today we find out that Blue Cross won't allow any changes from one medical group to another medical group when a patient is "in treatment" - which basically means the patient has a preexisting condition - except during open enrollment. Well, when else would one want to make a change?! I mean, if you're healthy you wouldn't be looking to change medical groups now would you? Sheesh!

So, my dad is going to work the insurance end of things for me tomorrow, and I'm going to see if I can have a personal meeting with my school district's superintendent. My goal is to see if I can get him to have the woman who handles insurance at the district level to make a change for us now, even though it's not open enrollment until August. It's my understanding that she could if she wanted to, but maybe I'm wrong.

Please pray that these obstacles would be overcome. I'm trying to remind myself that all things are possible with God, but I do feel a bit defeated tonight.

Oh Joannah, I am so sorry you feel defeated, even a little, but who wouldn't? I know nothing of insurance matters except to say they seem maddeningly arbitrary-- and I hope you are able to find a loophole that allows you to get Michael the treatment he needs at the best possible place. Sometimes plan B can also be a very good thing-- with the places that he has access to now-- can they consult with the UCLA group?

I am hoping and praying that things turn out exactly as they need to so he can be on the road to recovery.

I am holding you in my thoughts and heart,
Kate

This is absurd. To have to deal with this on top of everything else is just outrageous.

You will prevail, keep your faith. Remember...the army is behind you pushing you onwards and upwards.

I wish there was something that I could suggest. When we went through our medical trials this year we were so confused by the whole system. The hurry up and wait times and lack of communication really added to the stress. We would try to find any humor in each situation and we would use the line from "Finding Nemo"--Just keep Swimming! And I'll just keep Praying!

Praying for you Joannah!

Hope once the stress of wrapping up the school year is off your plate that things will ease up a little. I will definitely be very specific in my prayers regarding a certain person at the D.O. She can be a challenging personality. Hope things go your way :-)
