$4,000

The order for our IVF meds was placed yesterday by our doctor's office. I called the pharmacy today to pay for it and was blown away to hear that our total was $4,000. That's more than the doctor estimated it would be. He did say we'd be on the high-end of the spectrum because I require more meds than someone a bit younger than me. Great...

Had to take a loan from my folks to make that payment - thanks, Mom and Dad! Still waiting on the credit union. In the past, they have been so johnny-on-the-spot with loan applications. I hope we can really get things rolling next week.

Monday night we see the counselor for the required consultation. That's another $175.

Wednesday I will begin acupuncture again. I'm seeing the acupuncturist on staff at the RE's office instead of my previous acupuncturist. I have no idea how much that will run me.

I know this process holds the possibility that we will conceive a child (or two), but all I see right now are dollar signs.

It's so brutal in the beginning. Glad that you have some supportive parents on your side. :O)

that is nasty but i believe it will be a dull roar if you conceive. You deserve this.

Yep, I remember those days. I spent several months choking out nearly 2K per month to the pharmacy. Ouch!

I'm glad you have supportive family to help ease the strain.

Ouch! That stings. Just imagine holding your new bab(ies) in your arms! It will all be worth it, and more. :) I will pray that the loan comes through soon!

What sucks the most is that we live in CA where NONE of those costs are covered by insurance. I know people who have changed jobs so that their insurance companies are based in a different state just so they can have some infertility coverage.

When Joe was working at Barnes and Noble the insurance was based in NY and they covered 50% of one IVF cycle. Of course we found this out after I had a hysterectomy. Figures.

Ugh...I always dread the medication bill. It's so much $$! Praying your loan comes through soon.

I so want this to work for you guys, the first time around. I'm covering you in prayer.

I remember all too well how expensive it all was.

If your RE takes credit cards you might want to charge the initial cost and use your loan to pay off the charge as soon as the bill arrives. THAT is a lot of points (or miles, or whatever your cc offers)

Ouch! I am sorry this is such a big bite, and I too remember it well.

I have not been following blogs as closely these last couple months, but I am still following along and rooting for you and Michael!!!

Forgive me if you have already talked about this, but what about an online pharmacy. Our RE had us use freedomfertility dot com, and it was cheaper than through our local pharmacy. Maybe it's worth a try even if it save a couple hundred bucks?? They deliver overnight and keep the refrigerated meds in a cold pack.

Oh yikes...that is harsh. If I had an extra 4,000...I'd send it right out to you!!!

Keep your eye on the prize my friend and keep the faith!!

Eeeeek! Don't think I blame you. I remember feeling the same way with the adoption process. You just do what you gotta do. I am sending good thoughts your way.
