Lead Me On

I'm going with my sister to the Amy Grant Lead Me On 20th Anniversary concert tonight, and I'm very excited! I saw my first Amy Grant concert when I was just 17 years old with a friend from high school. After that, I became a huge fan of her music and her hair. I really wanted to have hair like hers. I permed my hair for years trying to get that look. Sigh...

I've lost count of all the shows I've seen of hers over the years, but I do know that I saw the original Lead Me On Tour. I think most Amy Grant fans believe that Lead Me On was one of her best albums. The songs had a depth to them that we didn't really see again until she did Behind the Eyes. Her pop stuff was fun, but I've always enjoyed her more reflective efforts. She has written some lyrics that have really resonated with me. I remember going through a really hard time in my life about ten years ago, and when I listened to Behind the Eyes for the first time, I felt like I'd just had a visit from an old friend and that things were going to be okay. I love that music has the power to alter our moods like that.

Anyway, the video I've posted isn't the original. I think it's better than the original because it portrays the subject matter of Lead Me On - slavery and the holocaust. The original is just Amy out in the wilderness somewhere lip syncing. Nothing too exciting except for her hair which I've already confessed I was coveting back then. I wish it didn't have the subtitles though. I'm not even sure which language they are. Oh, well...

Lead me on, lead me on
To the place where the river runs into Your keeping
Lead me on, lead me on
The awaited deliverance comforts the seeking
