Summer Road Trip

With our FET taking place the third week of June, we knew that any plans we made for travel could not include air travel. So, a road trip was in order! My first idea was to go up the coast of California - but, we have done that together the summer before we were married. I was ready for a new adventure! We also wanted to spend some time at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas. Michael's brother works for the company that owns RRC, and we will get a great rate and 50% discount at any restaurants there. We couldn't pass that up!

I stopped by AAA and got a bunch of maps and travel books (for free! gotta love that!), and the internet was an invaluable resource. So, here's the trip from start to finish:

July 8th & 9th we'll drive out to Las Vegas and stay at the Red Rock Casino.

July 10th & 11th we'll drive up to Cedar City, Utah and stay in a lovely bed and breakfast while we explore Zion and Bryce Canyons.

July 12th back on the road to Park City, Utah for a night in a gorgeous ski resort that is dirt cheap because it's the off season.

July 13th continue on through southern Idaho up to Pendleton, Oregon for a night. We hope to stop in Boise that day to see some friends of ours.

July 14th & 15th after what's sure to be an amazing drive down the Columbia River Gorge, we'll spend two nights at a fabulous boutique hotel and explore the city of Portland.

July 16th begin our drive down the Oregon Coast and stop in Seal Rock for a night at another bed and breakfast.

July 17th make a long drive all the way to Klamath, California where an award winning bed and breakfast awaits us with a river view.

July 18th & 19th continue on to Inverness, California, just an hour's drive north of San Francisco, for a two-night stay at a wonderful bed and breakfast that I've had the pleasure of staying at a long time ago with a good friend. It's a beautiful area!

July 20th home again, home again down the "scenic" Interstate 5.

Yes, it's lots of driving, but I used a distance calculator to try and keep the driving at about four or five hours maximum most days so we can arrive in the early afternoon and explore our destinations. There are a couple of days with longer drives that couldn't be avoided.

My heart and mind are already on the road!

How fun! Road trips are the best. They just seem so much less stressful to me. I guess because you can go at your own pace. (Plus, airports stress me out :)

I bet you are counting down the days!

Sounds like you will see some beautiful scenery. I remember Bryce and Zion Canyons were amazing, as was "Flaming Gorge" in that neck of the woods. Have a wonderful time!

We're making a similar road trip circle in the South including Appalachian mountains in June. But we have to fly first to get there!

You won't be too far from us on your trip to Vegas. We're about an hour off the 15.

Hope you have fun. :)

Hi Joannah, first, sending love to you as you handle the issues you mention in your last post--it is challenging to remain in a loving and forgiving place when other folks are acting like butt-heads, and I have great admiration for your desire to do so.

and second-- Yay on your FET schedule, time is rushing by and I am very excited for you. Since your trip will include your 2 week wait, it will go nice and slowly and you will have much time to savor your wonderful journey!

so I guess third is-- your trip sounds just great-- and filled with so many lovely things and places, I am very excited for you!

warmly, Kate

Sounds like a fun trip! If you have questions about the Oregon part of your itinerary, I'd be happy to offer suggestions.

I am so happy for you! What a fun trip to look forward to! Stop in Depoe Bay (just @40 miles north of Seal Rock) and try to see some whales. They are ALL OVER the place in August, so maybe July will be close enough? That leg to CA will be long...101 is so curvy, but the views can't be beat! HAVE FUN and update us when you can!
