Long Time No Blog

Just thought I'd pop in a bring you up to date on the goings on in my little world.

We had a GREAT time in Las Vegas! On Friday night, Michael and I had a very late dinner at Mon Ami Gabi, which is just across the strip from Bellagio. We ate al fresco and were treated to the sights and sounds from the Dancing Waters show over at Bellagio. I was just delighted by it all - the food, the show, the people watching.

Saturday morning we drove out to Red Rock Casino to check it out and wait for my family's arrival there. It is such a lovely hotel, and we are looking forward to staying there ourselves this summer. I was able to spend some time with my aunt and a cousin of ours out by the pool in the late afternoon. It was just lovely. That night we celebrated another cousin's fiftieth birthday, but I was mostly preoccupied with a stray teacup chihuahua that had found its way to my cousin's house that evening. Cute little thing ended up spending the night at my cousin's house, but was returned to its owners (some neighbors that wouldn't answer their door the night before) the next day. That's a good thing. I was going to slip her into my purse and bring her home with me on Southwest otherwise. I never thought I'd be interested in having a really little dog like that, but she just stole my heart.

Sunday we celebrated Mothers Day with a total of fourteen members from both sides of our families at the Original Pancake House. Yum! After saying our goodbyes, Michael and I went over to Bellagio where I was able to recoup my slot machine losses on one machine that has been very, very good to me on our recent trips. I just love playing the Hot Hot Penny/Emerald Eyes game! Love the graphics and the music, and I love that it pays out regularly. Some other favorites of mine are the Wizard of Oz, and Back to the Future. So much fun!

But you know what made Mothers Day really special for me? My husband gave me a card! That really made me feel good. I know I'm not a mom yet, but I have spent most of the last four years trying to become one. It just felt good to be acknowledged in that way by him.

Anyway, I was pretty tired the last couple of days after all that fun. But it was worth it.

Yesterday, I found out that I will have to teach fourth grade again next year. I am not very happy about it, and it really surprised me. I had given all my fourth grade materials away to the new teachers because I didn't expect to ever teach fourth grade again. But, with class-size reduction going the way of the dinosaurs, there are fewer primary positions to be had. I will be getting my materials back, thankfully. I am a little miffed that my principal chose to send me back up to upper grades instead of choosing someone else who hasn't had to change grade levels in a long while. I don't like being pegged or pigeon-holed as an upper-grade teacher. The number of students and the longer day make it less and less desirable to me now. I have really enjoyed third grade, and I look forward to teaching it again in the future. I will be back!

I have finished planning our road trip! Yea!!! In my next post I will share all my plans for our summer adventure.

Yay! You're back! I've been missing you, and I'm soooo glad you had a good time! I am green with envy. :)
You ARE a mom in your heart...you just don't have the baby yet!
I love that you don't like to be pigeon-holed as a teacher. I hate when teachers stick themselves to one grade...it limits creativity and growth, in my opinion. On the other hand, I love 3rd and would happily sit there for a few years, LOL!
I can't wait to hear your plans and vacation vicariously through you!

That is so sweet that Michael bought you a card...you ARE a mom-to-be and don't you forget it.
