Sunday Morning

It's been a busy weekend so far. Yesterday, I went to lunch with a coworker of mine. We used to teach fourth grade together for many years, and I have really missed working with her this year. We have very similar ideas about teaching and very similar work styles, and that made working together very easy. Although I'm really happy I switched to third grade and I enjoy my new teammates very much, I haven't had that strong connection this year and I miss it. So, we lunched and talked and talked and talked. It felt good to talk to someone who gets my take on things!

Later in the afternoon my dad took me to see my grandmother. I hadn't seen her since her birthday party in December. She didn't remember me. But that's okay. She kept telling me she was happy to meet me, and she asked me a couple of times where I live. She was talkative, but a lot of what she said didn't really make sense. She seemed worried about random things. Alzheimer's is a devastating disease. However, I have hope for my grandma's future because I know how much she loves the Lord. He will take her home soon, and she will be made whole. No more pain, suffering, worry, or grief. When I join her in Heaven, she will be laughing and singing with joy. I so want that for her.

Last night I went to church. I find that I'm much more likely to attend church if I plan to go to the Saturday night service. After getting up and out of the house so early during the week, I'm ready for a slow morning come Sunday. Last night's message was about how we really need to value the process by which God does things in our lives, instead of getting hung up on "events" that seem to solve our problems all at once. The pastor stressed that God still does things like that - he can do anything, but it's more likely that we will experience change as a result of a process than by some quick fix. It was a good message for me to hear as I am gearing up for the IVF process. We spent a lot of time in the Word, and it was interesting to see how God worked through processes in the lives of men and women of the Bible. He's still doing that today.

Thanks for all the advice about the fish oil tabs. After that first night, I haven't had a problem with them again. I usually take them shortly before going to bed, and I'm taking them with more water than I did the first time. So, no complaints!

This morning I'm off to meet up with one of my oldest friends. Katie and I have known each other since first grade! She grew up on the street just behind the street I grew up on. She was always so smart and funny, and one of the most loyal friends you could ask for. I haven't seen her since my ten-year high school reunion, but I happened to find her sister on FaceBook (my latest obsession) recently, and she helped me get in contact with Katie. So, this morning we'll meet up at the Original Pancake house for a delicious breakfast and the chance to catch up with each other. I can hardly wait!

Sounds like you had a good, connecting weekend. The message at church sounds really good too, especially for the personality like mine, I am always looking forward to the next event or thing in my life as if "then" I will start living. How often am I oblivious to what God is trying to say or do to me in the in between times though...

Alex's grandmother has Alzheimer's and a dear family friend of ours just passed away from it. It's a very sad thing to watch. You're right though...they'll one day, be made new again! I've volunteered to help with our local Alzheimer's Memory Walk in April. Do you guys have one in your area?

Sounds like you've had a girlfriend-filled weekend...those are always fun!

I'll be praying you have a wonderful week with your students!
