First Week of Vacation

I'm sort of feeling like this already! However, we have several appointments this week, so we're having to keep track of the days and all that. But every day sort of feels like a Saturday. Nice!

I'm just using my time this week to get us ready for our departure on Sunday - shopping, cleaning, laundry, etc. Nothing too exciting.

Hey, ladies! I've got a question for you. Do you wear your wedding rings when you go on vacation where you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors and in the water? I've decided to leave mine in a secure location (not at our house) while we're gone, and wear a piece of costume jewelry on my ring finger instead. My husband thinks that's unnecessary and he says he's "never heard of anyone doing that before." I told him my sister does that when she travels, and he said, "That's your sister" - whatever that means.

Well, I don't want to take the chance of losing them and I told him so. To that he said that he'd just get me a new one. I said I don't want a new one - I love the ones I have! Then I told him his thinking is illogical because he won't part with ratty, old clothing without emotional distress, but I'm supposed to take the chance that my wedding rings will be lost, stolen, or damaged and that's not a big deal.

Men!

On the fertility/infertility front, I'm not pregnant again this month. I've been charting my BBT temperatures like the acupuncturist told me to, and I could tell my period was going to start because my temperature had dropped a few days ago. I'm finding the charting process to be very informative. I'm still going to acupuncture twice a week and taking all my herbal pills. This month makes it a year since we began trying to get pregnant. I'm feeling slightly discouraged, but trying to remain faithful and patient. We are waiting on the results of Michael's most recent sperm analysis, and that information will help us decide whether or not we need to pursue a more aggressive approach.

Anyway...

Five more days until our departure to paradise!

Hey Joannah...
I hear of people subbing out costume jewelry for the real stuff all the time....especially special wedding ring sets.

Matter of fact, I wear them every day...I am such a klutz and working all the time, I don't want to ruin the REAL stuff.

And on an active vacation, I would want to keep them safe, too.

I have two rings that I wear. My wedding ring has a princess cut diamond that sticks up and I only wear it when we go out. I have a gold band that Jon gave me when he first asked me to marry him (and I later told him that I wanted a diamond) so I wear the band 90% of the time and that would include vacations too. I would NEVER bring my diamond wedding band on vacation, too many chances on losing it.
Maybe the tropical paradise will be the lucky ticket for you :)

One of my girlfriends wears a costume ring when she travels. For me I've never really thought about it, my wedding band is always there, but sometimes I will put the engagement ring away for camping trips.

I could so use a vacation to Hawaii right now. Have safe travels. And (again) don't forget Boots and Kimos in Kailua.

FWIW:

When we travel abroad we leave the good jewelry at home. Aly wears a simple gold band. When on the river or at the beach, we do not wear our rings...

I never, ever take my rings off. On my 10K runs, they stay on. In the ocean, they stay on. Everyone's different though and you should do what you feel secure doing.
Sorry about this month. I remember the days of charting and man were they interesting. I always had beautiful charts, but after 8 years...nothing. Hope the results are good in the SA. Keep us up to date.

Those bbt tests made me feel like a five year old learning algebra. I am so sorry it didn't workout for you this month.

I have a titanium band on and that's all that goes with me on vacations.

I wear my rings anywhere we go -- I never really thought about it but I guess in the back of my mind I think that if anything happens we'll just replace them. But I think the only thing that really matters is whatever would make you feel the most comfortable.

I've always gone everywhere with my real rings on. I just can't bring myself to part with them for too long..

Since I'm known for having thrown away my platinum and multi-carat diamond ring 3 years ago, I'm probably not the person to ask.

But I'll join in ...just because: Men! hrrmph

Maybe a little Hawaiian relaxation will turn the tide on the baby front.

I always wear my rings, but there have been times when I have been tempted to buy a plain gold band for occasions when I fear losing or damaging my ring.

Oooo you are going to have so much fun! And maybe some relaxation is just what the baby doctor ordered...God knows you've had enough stress with that class of yours this year!
I never, ever take off my rings...not even showering, and after 18 years they still look as good as new! Do what makes you comfortable!

I am probably not the right person to ask either. I take mine off at night and leave them on the bathroom vanity so I guess I am taking the chance the cat will jump up there and bat them down the drain! Other than that they never come off. But as others before me have said -- whatever makes you comfortable is what's important!

Well, I am here to tell you that you are right on with the jewelry thing. I wore my 2 carat diamond earrings on a cruise a few years ago, and lost one! Yep, fell right out of my ear, despite my screw on backs that I swear by.

Good news they were insured!

You're right to be cautious.
